Draymond Green: Championship Priority For Warriors Over Facing Houston Rockets

Curry finished with 28 points as the reigning National Basketball Association champions ran out 113-104 winners to complete a 4-1 series victory and set up a showdown with the top-seeded Houston Rockets.

Golden State has won its last nine playoff games - four this season, five a year ago - when holding the opponent below 100 points, a streak that dates to Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals when Cleveland prevailed 93-89 to claim the title.

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors will face the Houston Rockets for a place in the National Basketball Association finals after the Western Conference heavyweights wrapped up series wins Tuesday. Klay Thompson and Draymond Green combined for other 8 points. "But your body obviously sometimes has a mind of its own", Curry said. We sure took a circuitous route to get here, but we couldn't have asked for more. "We'll have to bring our A-plus game and I think our guys are ready".

Paul scored a playoff career-high 41 points with eight 3-pointers to finally reach the conference finals, helping the Rockets eliminate the Utah Jazz 112-102 in Game 5.

But even for his Houston Rockets teammates, what they saw from him Tuesday night was on another level.

Here is an early look at key factors in the series and why, in the end, I'm predicting a Warriors victory in seven games.

"We won two championships in three years, we're not about to run off talking about how bad we want to play somebody, we want to win another championship", Green said.

It's the only blip on an otherwise flawless four-year postseason resume for the Warriors: A Game 7 loss to Cleveland in 2016, which soured a potential 3-peat that would have placed Golden State alongside only the Celtics, Bulls and Lakers in the annals of National Basketball Association history. Though the incident caused Curry to become upset with officials, Curry showed no signs of discomfort after Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday pushed him toward the stanchion underneath the basket with 5:08 left in the third quarter.

What else is at stake: the Warriors' success unsurprisingly hinges largely on how well Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Thompson score.

"It's been awhile since we started out a series on the road", Green said.

So far, instead, the Warriors have found a way to defend both styles, preferring to run with the fast-paced, push-the-tempo Pelicans while dealing with daunting big man Anthony Davis and the imposing load he is in the middle.

The Warriors came out of halftime with a 10-0 run over the opening 1:54, forcing two Pelicans timeouts and taking control for the rest of the game. The Pelicans trimmed the difference to just 17 with a late quarter push but over the first 7 minutes of the quarter, Golden State outscored them 27-6. In the midst of an exceptional personal performance from him as well, Green chose to swing by his opponent's huddle.

"I don't have a reaction, that's Draymond", New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry said. So I think this is going to be a surprising season. Curry scored 28 points in 37 minutes on 10-of-16 shooting, slowly regaining his super powers with every ovation from the raucous and eager Oracle crowd.
