  • It's time to take the mental health of mothers seriously

May is national Mental Health Month, and National Alliance on Mental Illness Berkshire County is promoting awareness throughout the month. Supported by Lee - a well-connected Western New York businessman and philanthropist whose son was elected to two terms on Congress before resigning after being found soliciting at least one woman on Craigslist - and co-headlined with fellow Western New York Congressman Brian Higgins, the initiative seeks to pull people into the conversation around mental health, urging them to reach out to their elected representatives and emphasize their support for the funding of mental health. "Mental health has a very strong presence in the Battlefords, not just because we have a lot of service agencies, but we're also home to Saskatchewan's only psychiatric hospital". This means that schools are finding it very hard to get children the support they need'.

Zielke de Montbrun encouraged residents to use the #getloud hashtag on social media to show their support for mental health. Around 80 mental health professionals will attend the event to talk about the latest research into how trauma affects children locally and state-wide.

There must be more help for families with children at risk of developing problems.

The report says the paper fails to mention apprentices at all in its 54 pages, and also notes that "neither minister referred to colleges or further education at all" when they were questioned by the committees.

She said that the committee wants to see more evidence that the government will join up services in a way that places children and young people at their heart, improving services to all children rather than a minority.

Matthew Reed, Chief Executive of The Children's Society, said: "Thousands of young people in desperate need of support with their mental health are being failed".

"Mental health treatment for children continues to fall short on key standards, such as access and waiting times; the Tories" proposals do nothing to address these problems and will instead heap pressure on hard-pressed teachers and overstretched services. Adverse childhood experiences such as poor attachment or through parental alcohol and drug abuse or domestic violence can have a awful bearing on future well-being and a preventative approach in the early years must be a core part of the Government's strategy.

"We agree that every young person should be able to access mental health support - however we need to ensure we get this right, which is why we will pilot this approach to make sure services are correct".

The Ministry of Education is addressing early intervention and prevention in schools by adding more supports, so students can begin to discuss mental-health challenges with their teachers or counsellors as soon as these issues develop.
