Since then, they made remarkable returns as they both feature in a second semi-final in the last three Slams. Between 2014-17, Halep went 8-5 in finals - but from Rome past year, she has lost six of her last seven title rounds, with the only victory coming in Shenzhen in January over Katerina Siniakova.

Such impressive data from this match has led to Muguruza being chalked up as a [1.89] favourite over Halep, and I want to discuss why I think this is an utterly freaky line.

Halep broke to love as Muguruza wilted in the next game, sealing her third final appearance at Roland Garros and ensuring she will stay as world number one after the tournament.

"I never gave up. It's go time. Until then, we're the same girls as always". But it's a little weird.

"To come out of these weeks and feel fairly healthy is a great thing". The key game was the 13-minute ninth at 4-4 when Halep just clung on to her serve, and the disappointment seemed to get to her opponent, who subsided to defeat the game afterwards.

Simona Halep is coming off a three sets win over Angelique Kerber that took 30 games to decide.

She also failed to win a single service game in the opener.

"I'm really happy that I could beat a player like Muguruza".

Halep, who assured herself of retaining the No. 1 ranking with the victory, earned a fourth chance to win her first major title.

On Court Suzanne Lenglen, 2014 and 2017 runner-up Halep, came back from a set down for the second time in the tournament to see off 12th seed Kerber, who was bidding to become the first German woman in the last 4 since Steffi Graf in 1999.

The 24-year-old improved in the early stages of the second set, holding serve for the first time and backing it up with a break on her way to a 3-1 lead.

Here's another key category in which Muguruza has the upper hand: 2-0 in major championships. "My head won it", Halep said.

"And I have two more days until I will play the final".

Three previous times, she played finals, including the 2017 French Open and the 2018 Australian Open. Some of this is X's and O's; Sloane makes you hit the extra ball and has played terrific tennis in the matches, and Keys has missed too much.

The second set was more of a test for Halep, who was ahead by a set and 3-0 before falling apart against Ostapenko a year ago.

Sharapova, playing at Roland Garros for the first time since 2015, suffered her most one-sided defeat at the Slams since a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Victoria Azarenka in the 2012 Australian Open final.

"When you're facing somebody that also has an aggressive style of game I think it's about who takes the command, who takes the first opportunity", Muguruza said.

"And I think we played many matches. It is a very tough day, because, you know, it's one of those matches where you train so hard, you know, to achieve a Grand Slam final".
