Jack Butland starts in goal with Ruben Loftus-Cheek also earning a starting berth against their fellow World Cup finalists.

In England's last match before their tournament opener against Tunisia in 11 days time, Manchester United's Rashford was the star of a much-changed side in Leeds.

Substitute Danny Welbeck added a second on 76 minutes when he got his head to Dele Alli's cross and so England head to Russian Federation with a 100% record from their warm-up matches, having beaten Nigeria on Saturday.

Navas was Costa Rica's hero of an incredible run to the World Cup quarter-finals four years ago in Brazil, helping to knock England out of the group stages on the way.

Roy Hodgson's already-eliminated side brought the curtain down on their terrible finals foray with a lifeless goalless draw in Belo Horizonte.

It was Costa Rica's only threat in a dominant first-half display by England.

But England never looked in danger of throwing away their lead and substitute Welbeck headed home to seal victory against the 2014 World Cup's surprise package. We have only taken two (warm-up games) as we had some players in the FA Cup final and a couple in the Champions League final.

Rashford opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a stunning dipping shot from 25 yards, which left Costa Rica and Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas with no chance.

Costa Rica are in a tough group against Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia at the World Cup and while nobody would have expected them to win, even second place may be looking like a push at the moment.

The resulting set-piece was met by Harry Maguire, who diverted a free looping header towards the bottom corner, but Bryan Oviedo hacked it off the line.

England were in the ascendancy and Rashford was exciting the Yorkshire crowd with a number of flashy touches and silky skills.

England's rhythm was then stunted by five quickfire substitutions, including a debut for Burnley's Nick Pope in goal.

England were unable to find a way to add a third but emerged victorious - and seemingly without injury.
