IHOP acknowledges it faked IHOb name change

10 July, 2018, 16:17 | Author: Joanna Little
  • IHOP has changed its name back from IHOB

IHOP officially reverted to its original name on Monday, roughly one month after the chain drew national attention for changing its name to IHOb to promote its new line of burgers.

IHOP's Twitter bio now reads: "If at first you don't pancake. pancake, pancake again".

IHOP announced on Facebook that its name change was a hoax to promote new burgers, according to KATU-2.

Either way, the great "Why Are They Changing Their Name" debate is over, seemingly just as quickly as it started. But the effort did not create a significant increase in the company's purchase consideration, which measures the likelihood of consumers eating at a particular restaurant chain. The pancake chain began revamping its burgers more than a year ago, IHOP's president, Darren Rebelez, told Business Insider, as it has tried to boost sales outside breakfast.

Prior to the IHOb campaign, 19% of U.S. adults said they had talked about the chain in the past two weeks.

The name-change move accomplished what appears to have been its core goal: It got people talking.

Or maybe we were just gullible. "They're still there. They're on the cover of the menu", Rebelez said.

NEW YORK IHOP has come clean.
