Earlier, British Prime Minister Theresa May invoked wartime leader Winston Churchill and strong transatlantic ties as she hosted Trump Thursday night - hours after he began a protest-laden visit by questioning her Brexit strategy.

His comments went down badly in Downing Street as the Prime Minister desperately battles to contain a civil war within her party over her Brexit proposals.

The Conservative MP said that Trump would negotiate Brexit "bloody hard", adding: "There'd be all sorts of breakdowns, all sorts of chaos".

"I also represent a lot of people in Europe because a lot of people from Europe are in the United States". Another 13 percent said they didn't know. "I actually told Theresa May how to do it, but she didn't listen to me".

"And I believe it", the president said previous year of the welcome he was shown by China's President Xi. Britons, he said, "like me a lot", the BBC reported.

Trump said he would try to avoid the crowd in the capital during his four-day visit to the country.

However, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said the president's policies were putting millions of lives at risk and criticised May for her warm welcome.

"We are committed to dialogue, including of course with those we strongly disagree with and in government we would find a way to work with his administration while also standing up for our values". French President Emmanuel Macron quickly disputed Trump's claim that North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies had agreed to boost defense spending beyond their existing goal of 2 percent of gross domestic product by 2024. "We must show Trump and the Tories that we can and we will defeat the politics of division".

"It was a harrowing clip, and we wanted to make sure that Donald Trump could hear it", Shabbir Lakha, one of the organizers of the protest, told CBS News.

After landing at Stansted Airport on Air Force One, Trump and First Lady Melania were flown by helicopter to the US Ambassador's residence, Winfield House.

May, in a long crimson dress, and her husband, Philip May, walked down a long red carpet to greet their American guests as they made the long, dramatic drive up to the front of the palace.

Melania Trump wears a J Mendel dress.

At the dinner, which was attended by leading business figures, Mrs May said: "Thousands of U.S. companies have a home in the United Kingdom, providing jobs for over million people here". He added, "I think he is a great representative for your country".
