  • Amesbury Novichok victim Charlie Rowley released from hospital

Two Britons fell ill last month in a town near Salisbury after being exposed to Novichok, one of whom died.

Officials believe that the nerve agent that sickened Rowley, 45, and killed his partner was the same that was used against ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in March.

Sturgess, 44, died in the hospital on July 8, eight days after she became violently ill at Rowley's home in Amesbury in southwestern England.

PHE medical director Paul Cosford reiterated its previous advice: "Do not pick up any items such as syringes, needles, cosmetics or similar objects made of materials such as metal, plastic or glass".

Rowley was released from the hospital on Friday after he regained consciousness.

Police found a bottle containing the nerve agent at the scene.

Wilkinson said that while Rowley had been discharged, it was a "day tinged with sadness for everyone" as they remembered Sturgess.

The incident involving the Skripals, both of whom recovered from their exposure to Novichok after weeks in a hospital, triggered a diplomatic crisis between Moscow and the West.

Public Health England said Mr Rowley's release does not create a risk to the public.

Dawn Sturgess dabbed on what she believed to be perfume from a small bottle.

"I then said my goodbyes to Dawn before leaving hospital", she said.

Rowley and Sturgess collapsed at his house in Amesbury, north of Salisbury.

Couple remains in critical condition after being poisoned by the same nerve agent as an ex-Russian spy.

They started their search of public toilets yesterday and resumed the investigation earlier today.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) will analyse the substance before reporting back its conclusions.

Police warned they could not be certain there were no more contaminated sites.

British officials are "closing in on identifying the individuals they believe carried out the operation", according to the New York Times.

Scotland Yard would not comment on whether detectives were showing people photos of a potential suspect.

Earlier it was reported that the British investigators had identified suspects that had attacked former GRU officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

The BBC has not been able to independently confirm the story.
