Trump should disclose details of conversation with Putin, - ex-head of Central Intelligence Agency

Senator Lindsey Graham said additional sanctions needed to be tied up before President Donald Trump holds a second meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin after the United States leader came under heavy criticism for failing to confront Putin about interference in the 2016 election at a summit last Monday.

But public reaction nationally appears more muted than in Washington, where Trump faced withering bipartisan criticism for appearing to side with Putin over U.S. intelligence agencies at a Monday news conference held in Helsinki.

Still, on Sunday, Trump appeared to return to a previous position that Russia's election interference was a story dreamed up by Democrats to excuse Hillary Clinton's defeat - despite saying in a scripted statement last week that he held Putin personally responsible for it. "The Kremlin intelligence agents know exactly what took place in that meeting".

"It may very well be that he is compromised or it may very well be that he believes he's compromised, that the Russians have information on him", Shiff added.

Rubio, who ran against Trump in the Republican presidential primary in 2016 but exited after losing the Florida primary, said he would never stand with Putin. "Those should be reserved for, I think, our allies like Great Britain and Canada and Australia and those who are with us day in and day out".

Barletta also has said he expects Trump will campaign for him in Pennsylvania and marshal "a lot" of money from donors to help him. "He just said it's not Russia", Trump said, according to transcripts.

The comments came up in a discussion of Trump's controversial appearance with Putin after a summit in Helsinki. Coats has said "If he had asked me how that ought to be conducted, I would have suggested a different way, but that's not my role..."

Director of national intelligence Dan Coats said his comments at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado were not meant to be critical of the president's decision to invite Mr Putin to a meeting in Washington later this year.

Fifty-six percent disapprove of Trump expressing doubts about United States intelligence agencies' conclusion that Russian Federation tried to influence the 2016 election. He asked his interviewer, "Say that again, did I hear you?"

U.S. intelligence services have concluded Russian agents had attempted to influence the election in Trump's favour through a coordinated campaign of fake news and social media bots. "The sentence should have been: I don't see any reason why I wouldn't - or why it wouldn't be Russian Federation".

However, neither Mr Trump nor the White House has confirmed any agreements between the two countries.

By the time Trump arrived back in the US, the parade of critical statements had become a stampede, leaving the president the most isolated he'd been in the White House since last year's controversy over white supremacist protesters in Charlottesville.

The president has dealt with consistent, rapid-fire blowback from members of both political parties ever since he appeared swayed by Putin's denials of Russian election meddling. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, said on "Fox News Sunday" that Trump should have "challenged" Putin more on the world stage.
