  • Roseanne Barr apologises to Valerie Jarrett over ‘misunderstanding’ – then insults haircut

Roseanne has vehemently maintained that she didn't even know Jarrett was black, she thought she was white. Beyond her racially offensive tweet being "abhorrent" to the company's values, ABC executives had to realize that because there little chance of controlling the star of their biggest show, they had reason for knots in their stomachs, dreading more unwelcome surprises.

Hannity asked her several times for an apology, but Barr seemed to hesitate.

She added that the first few times she left her home following her firing from ABC she said 'never in my career of 30-something years have I felt the love and support of people on the street than I do now'. At another point, just before addressing Jarrett directly, Barr said, "I already have said I'm sorry for two months". "That's what was in my head".

Roseanne looked into the camera and said with seeming sincerity, "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding that caused my ill worded tweet". "Don't assume that you know what I meant, because I think you don't know what I meant, and I would like to make it clearer to you what I did mean". I've apologised and explained and asked for forgiveness. I mean, seriously, she needs a new haircut'. It cost me everything, my life's work.

As for whether she's going to lay off Jarrett now. she tells us we'll have to wait and see.

"Plus, I'd tell her she's got to get a new haircut".

"I walked away from that show, despite the fact that I had a contract which protected me from if I got in trouble with tweets", Barr said.

"I have a different view of that", responded Barr as she gave her first TV interview since she was sacked from "Roseanne".

Reflecting on the backlash to her tweet online and ABC cancelling her revived sitcom, Barr said she was hurt by the reaction both as an "artist" and as a "citizen". "That's not a kind person", she said, referencing a photo shoot Barr did back in 2009 for the satirical Jewish magazine Heeb.

Barr says the incident led to her departure from Twitter. "I made a mistake and I paid the price for it", Barr told Hannity. I was so sad that people thought [the tweet] was racist. "Her skin tone is like mine, and I'm brown", Barr said.

Her explanations have shifted nearly since the controversy began. Hannity initially responded to the tweet by saying it was "outrageous".

Roseanne Barr sat for her first TV interview since she was sacked and had her ABC sitcom "Roseanne" canceled over a racist tweet. I could fight this, because they didn't give me the notice or the chance to correct.
