Leonard passes physical with Raptors

  • Kawhi Leonard will have plenty of options in free agency next summer

The four-time All-Star, sources say, will use the time to get his affairs in order following the blockbuster trade to San Antonio that also sent forward Kawhi Leonard to Toronto. When Spurs officials came to NY to check on him, he reportedly hid from them, reflecting the bizarrely extreme state of his estrangement from the team.

Green, too, is making his way back from a tear in his groin that was picked up in his end-of-season physical with San Antonio, and clearly the Raptors were comfortable with his health status as well. "[It says] slight strain, take a couple weeks off". Green missed five games in December due to the injury.

The Spurs also received Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round draft pick in the deal.

"I would feel it and they were like, my agent, 'Maybe you should get a second opinion.' I didn't want to, because I have full faith and believe in the Spurs staff", Green said.

That news is particularly noteworthy given that one of the big reasons for Leonard's ultimate departure was the year-long saga about his injured quad, suffered during the 2017 postseason. For me, I understood they were trying to go in a different direction.

The players had a week to report to their teams and pass physicals.

In reaction to these fairly recent rumors, ESPN's Michael C. Wright said on the latest episode of colleague Zach Lowe's podcast that Kawhi Leonard could have avoided his issues with the San Antonio Spurs by speaking up and telling the team that he also wanted to drive a luxury auto during the 2016 All-Star Weekend. You get to be coached by the Bill Belichick of basketball with Gregg Popovich.

"They did everything they could, but I think it would have been nice to see a specialist, just to see if there was another angle, another view", Green said of the Spurs' training staff.

"Nobody ever talks to Kawhi to know exactly what he's thinking or what's on his mind so the best way to monitor that or gauge it is by having him in your programme".
