The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said Wednesday that another 440 buildings including barns and warehouses have also been destroyed by the Carr Fire. "You can expect, unfortunately, that to keep intensifying in California and throughout the Southwest".
California Gov. Jerry Brown said Wednesday that fires have become the new normal in California due in large part to the changing weather.
The fire, which is almost twice the size of Sacramento, was only 35 per cent contained after more than a week.
The Carr Fire in Shasta and Trinity counties, which was sparked July 23 by a non-criminal vehicle fire at Highway 299 and Carr Powerhouse Road west of Redding, Calif., has burned more than 115,000 acres and was 35 percent contained as of this morning.
