  • Air strikes on hospital and market in Yemen's Hodeidah kill dozens

In a report released by the ministry, on Thursday, it claimed that the unwarranted attacks over Hodeidah's Public al-Thawra Hospital and a busy fishing port, left over 124 Yemenis injured.

Salama said the main hospital building remained intact but many subsidiary departments, especially the statistical department, were hit, affecting workers preparing for the cholera campaign.

"Saudi Arabia has set up an oil base in collaboration with the French Total company in the Southern parts of Kharkhir region near the Saudi border province of Najran and is exploiting oil from the wells in the region", Yemeni economic expert Mohammad Abdolrahman Sharafeddin told Fars News Agency of Iran last March.

The outlet also reported the Houthis have controlled Hodeidah since 2014.

Yemen's Houthi Ansarullah movement has unilaterally suspended its retaliatory attacks in the Red Sea, from where Saudi-led warships have been targeting the war-torn state, especially its strategic port city of Hudaydah.

Saudi Arabia has led an Arab military coalition to intervene in the Yemen war since 2015 to support the government of exiled President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. "Houthi militia are behind killing of civilians in Hodeidah otoday".

Human Rights Watch has accused the Saudi-led campaign of 85 instances of unlawful airstrikes - a charge that the coalition has denied.

According to several reports, the Saudi-led air campaign against Yemen has driven the impoverished country towards humanitarian disaster, as Saudi Arabia's deadly campaign prevented the patients from travelling overseas for treatment and blocked the entry of medicine into the war-torn country.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Sunni Muslim allies have been fighting in Yemen with Western backing for more than three years against the Iran-aligned Houthis.

The Saudi-led alliance says capturing Hodeidah would cut off the main supply line of the Houthis and force the group to the negotiating table, but it has made no major gains since it launched the offensive on June 12.

"The scenes coming from Hudaydah are horrific", the statement said.

For the last few weeks, the United Nations had been trying to broker a deal in a bid to avert the attack and stop Saudi human rights violations, which it fears would further hinder Yemenis' access to food, fuel and medicine - worsening the world's most urgent humanitarian crisis. The attacks were unexpected, Al Jazeera added, because the Houthis and the coalition recently announced a ceasefire in and around Hodeidah to promote United Nations-brokered peace efforts.

On Friday, the UN's World Health Organisation said Yemen may be on the brink of a new cholera epidemic, with greater chance of a high death rate due to widespread malnutrition.
