U.S. diplomat warns Trump wants ‘SURRENDER’ from Iran NOT an agreement

The United States on Monday reimposed financial sanctions on Iran that were suspended under the nuclear deal in 2015, while renewing President Donald Trump's offer to meet his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani.

Responding to Mr. Trump's comments, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said that Washington's call for new nuclear negotiations at the same time the USA reimposes crippling sanctions "makes no sense".

"As we go more towards (the fourth quarter) ... that's when we really see the risk of prices going well into the 80s and potentially even into the 90s but very critical is how much Iranian production we lose", Amrita Sen, chief oil analyst at Energy Aspects, told CNBC Monday.

The renewed sanctions were among those lifted under a 2015 deal between world powers and Tehran on curbing Iran's nuclear program.

Trump government officials blame the nuclear deal signed under former president Barack Obama for providing the revenue for Iran to fund its regional activities. The U.S. move has dismayed America's European allies trying to preserve the nuclear deal.

As of midnight, harsh sanctions on Iran have kicked in as part of the administration's strategy to keep Tehran from achieving its goal of building a nuclear bomb. "I am asking for WORLD PEACE, nothing less", he added.

The renewed sanctions will squeeze Iran economically, nearly immediately.

USA secretary of state Mike Pompeo said sanctions are an important pillar in American policy toward Iran and will remain in place until the Iranian government radically changes course.

"We are always in favor of diplomacy and talks..."

"Consistent with President Trump's decision, the administration will be reimposing specified sanctions after August 6, the final day of the 90-day wind-down period", the White House said.

The United States continues to stand with the long-suffering Iranian people, who are the rightful heirs to Iran's rich heritage and the real victims of the regime's policies, indicated the statement.

"If the ayatollahs want to get out from under the squeeze, they should come and sit down. But talks need honesty", Rouhani said. Its currency the rial has lost nearly two-thirds of its value in six months. "But if the government has a serious plan they can control the situation".

The US decision will have important repercussions for European Union companies in the form of extraterritorial sanctions, which Brussels considers illegal.

Mr Rouhani said: "They want to launch psychological warfare against the Iranian nation".

Few American companies do much business in Iran, an enemy of the United States since its 1979 Islamic Revolution, so the impact of any sanctions depends on Washington's ability to block European and Asian firms from doing business there.

He added, "To this day, Iran threatens the United States and our allies, undermines the worldwide financial system, and supports terrorism and militant proxies around the world".
