North Korea also accused unidentified high-level USA officials of "going against the intention of President Trump" by "making baseless allegations against us and making desperate attempts at intensifying the global sanctions and pressure".

The two Koreas, who agreed to increase sports exchanges at a landmark summit between the South's President Moon Jae-in and the North's leader Kim Jong-un in April, held a friendly basketball match in Pyongyang last month.

North Korea for its part denounced the United States for its "outdated acting script" in pressuring the North with continued sanctions, but said it was still prepared to meet its obligations after a historic North Korea-U.S. summit in Singapore in June.

"They have to understand that the global community still expects them to denuclearize and so we're willing to wait if they want to wait, but we're not willing to wait for too long", said Haley, who has pushed through three United Nations sanctions packages since arriving at the world body 18 months ago.

"We hoped that these goodwill measures would contribute to breaking down the high barrier of mistrust" between Pyongyang and Washington, the North's Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

Trump's national security adviser, John Bolton, also said this week North Korea has not taken the necessary steps to denuclearise.

Relations between North Korea and the U.S. remain tense, despite reassurance from the U.S. State Department that the two countries are in contact with each other.

"As long as the US denies even the basic decorum for its dialogue partner and clings to the outdated acting script which the previous administrations have all tried and failed, one can not expect any progress in the implementation of the DPRK-US joint statement, including the denuclearisation", it said.

Reporting on preliminary results from a 10-month investigation, the Korea Customs Service said Friday it is seeking prosecutions of three local companies and their executives for smuggling or forging documents to say North Korean mineral resources came from Russian Federation.

The fresh anger out of Pyongyang comes as top diplomats from the U.S. have strongly criticised the North's commitment to denuclearisation.

In this photo released by official website of the office of the Iranian Presidency, President Hassan Rouhani addresses the nation in a televised speech in Tehran, Aug. 6, 2018.

In the most recent sign of growing frustration between Washington and Pyongyang, North Korea criticised senior American officials for insisting that North Korea give up its nuclear weapons first before easing sanctions. Some experts say that North Korea does not want to denuclearize first or maybe denuclearize at all because it wants a long, drawn-out process that sees external aid shipped in in return for abandoning nuclear weapons.

They said it had also not agreed to definitions of the key terms of any agreement, or to any inspection of its nuclear test site, which it claims to have decommissioned, but which USA intelligence officials have said may still be operable. Washington is pushing for the North to begin giving up its nuclear program.

The warnings come just days after North Korea's foreign minister called United States actions "alarming".
