Nick Saban Called ESPN's Maria Taylor to Apologize After Abrasive Interview Answer

"I still like both guys".

Saban responded: "I still like both guys".

Who will play between Tua Tagovailoa, who got the start and threw for 227 yards on 12-of-16 passing with two touchdowns, and Jalen Hurts, who started most of last season, has been the question Saban can not escape, and it is the question that hovers over Alabama's season. Tagovailoa was 12-of-16 through the air for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns before Hurts got some reps. So why do you continually try to get me to say something that doesn't respect one of them?

Tua is capable of making plays Hurts can't, but he's also capable of making mistakes Hurts wouldn't, and Saban won't be afraid to go back to Hurts if he feels the need to.

Having to cover three games in four days, along with a College Gameday show, Taylor had little time to dwell on Saban's interview. However, Saban apparently issued an apology to Taylor, which felt necessary. I'm not going to.

Everything about Alabama's QB situation has been classic Saban.

Saban said after Saturday's win he would continue to use both quarterbacks going forward.

The Alabama Crimson Tide kicked off their defense of last season's national title with a 51-14 drubbing of Louisville. It likely was nothing personal against Taylor at all and more a built-up frustration with the media as a whole just wanting to know who's going to play the most important position on the field for the defending national champions.

Expect Saban to answer this question, however, soon when he decides Tagovailoa is going to be Alabama's starting quarterback.
