  • Burt Reynolds dies at the age of 82

According to TMZ, Reynolds died of a heart attack. Reynolds continued to support Florida State after becoming a big-time Hollywood star and was often spotted on the sidelines or in the stands during gameday.

A source tells Us the actor went into cardiac arrest at a hospital in Florida on Thursday, September 6. That film is scheduled to be released in 2019. He also made several guest roles in shows such as "Alfred Hitchcock Presents", "Perry Mason" and "The Twilight Zone", among others. The actor reportedly turned down the roles of both Han Solo in Star Wars, and John McLane in Die Hard. It was 1977's Smokey and the Bandit that truly made Reynolds the star we all think of today.

Reynolds was one of the most popular male actors of the 1970s and 1980s.

In 1998, Reynolds received his first Academy Award nod, for a supporting role in Boogie Nights that also earned him a Golden Globe. Reynolds turned his attention to acting, moving to NY, where he struggled for several years until he landed a role in a revival of Mr. Roberts starring Charlton Heston in 1956.

Reynolds re-emerged past year for a personal movie "The Last Movie Star" which looked into the life of a faded movie star filled with regret and longing, an exaggerated version of the actor content to living a mostly quiet life in Jupiter, Florida.

The critical and box office success of the movie combined with a near-nude centerfold shoot of Reynolds in Cosmopolitan magazine the same year cemented his status as a sex symbol.

The prolific and iconic actor's career began on TV, starring in western shows such as Riverboat and Gunsmoke. To this day, Smokey and the Bandit remains the star's most successful endeavor. He is survived by his son from his second marriage, Quinton Anderson Reynolds. A critical hit, Boogie Nights never-the-less did not sit well with its star, who had trouble with the subject matter and hated working with Anderson, who he thought cocky.

He would later call Field "the one that got away". He was also married to English actress Judy Carne from 1963 to 1965.
