Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and Portuguese attacker Cristiano Ronaldo, who were selected among the top 11 a year ago, have appeared on every wider list of 55 players since the 2004/2005 season, or since FIFPro began the competition.

With close to 25,000 footballers in 65 countries casting their votes for the final eleven, the Blues' trio will hope to make the final cut - though the competition is intense.

The 2018 FIFPro list includes some familiar names and standout players in the last football season.

The FIFPro World 11 has been announced every year since 2005 and under Rafa Benitez Liverpool players were included in the three years from 2007 to 2009.

According to ESPN, the FIFA FIFPro World 11 2018, as selected by thousands of professional players, was announced on Monday. Virgil van Dijk, the most expensive defender in history at £75 million, is among the top defenders while Pogba, Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and N'Golo Kante are in the running as part of the midfielders category.

The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Mohamed Salah and Luka Modric are among the big names on the list, but there were also some surprises.
