Melania on Donald Trump: 'I don't always agree what he tweets'

  • First Lady Melania Trump criticised for 'colonial' hat choice in Kenya

The First Lady left Washington Tuesday to make stops in Ghana, Malawi, Kenya and Egypt in a week-long journey focusing on children.

Children living at The Nest in Nairobi greeted her with singing and dancing, and it didn't take long before the typically reserved USA first lady gave in to the moment.

Standing in front of the Great Sphinx in Egypt Saturday, she told reporters, "I wish people would focus on what I do, not what I wear".

On her view of her husband's sometimes sharp or derogatory comments, particularly on Twitter, she said, "I don't always agree what he tweets, and I give him my honest advice".

"Personally, I think the US First Lady's decision to wear a pith helmet is appropriate", another person said, before grilling the first lady's style choice.

"You know what, we just completed an incredible trip".

"I'm glad that Dr. Ford was heard". As she says, the campaign is "shining a spotlight on successful programs and organizations that teach children tools and skills".

"We need to help all the victims, no matter what kind of abuse they had", she said.

Melania Trump sashayed to the beat of African music as she was welcomed to an orphanage in Kenya on Friday.

On Saturday the president's wife again attempted to highlight such a distance, telling reporters that she did not always agree with her husband's opinions. Seay asks. "Why didn't she. talk to survivors of sexual violence or terrorism in Kenya?" "It's very important that I express what I feel". President Trump has been quoted as saying immigrants from Africa came from "shit-hole countries", though he has denied making the remark.

Mrs Trump was in Malawi for a few hours after arriving from Ghana.

Even before the pith helmet, Seay had started a hashtag - #FLOTUSInAfricaBingo - to note the ways in which she found that Trump was "fulfilling a lot of stereotypes" on her trip.

"The first lady did a tremendous job representing our country in Africa - like no one has before", he said in a statement yesterday.

She's right though. In an ideal world, the focus would be on the First Lady's initiatives and what she said and did, rather than what she was wearing.

Trump's trip, which took her to Ghana and Malawi as well, has also focused on children - one expressed goal of the trip was to highlight her "Be Best" campaign, which promotes "encouragement, kindness, compassion and respect" among kids.

"Thank you for what you do and taking care of them", Trump told the orphanage's staff after learning more about the facility and the circumstances that brought numerous young children and babies to it.

Everything about her tour to Africa was flawless but her dressing while in Kenya is what has made her tour to Africa look bad.
