  • First Image of Ruby Rose as Batwoman Reveals a New Caped Crusader

You can see the first look image below. Batwoman was originally introduced in the DC Universe in 1956 as a love interest for Batman, but she was phased out of the comics a few years later.

In the photo, the Australian actress trades in her signature short 'do for the character's fire-red tresses, which flow out of her cowl, just like in the comics. The new show will compliment the other DC Comics superhero series on the network - a lineup which now includes Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Black Lightning. The costume was designed by award-winning costume designer, Colleen Atwood.

Assuming Batwoman's inclusion in the Arrow, Supergirl and The Flash crossover goes off without a hitch, you might want to schedule some time into your TV schedule next year for a Batwoman series, since one is now in the works at The CW.

Ruby Rose is ready to rise as The CW's Batwoman. But don't call her a hero yet.

Earlier this year when it was announced that Rose would be playing the caped crusader on the small screen, the online backlash was so severe it caused Rose to quit Twitter. Critics hailed the casting as "perfect", and Rose described the role as a "childhood dream". Others complained about the inclusion of the character in the Arrowverse and her sexuality in general. The character will mark the first appearance of an openly gay superhero on television, which is appropriate for Rose, who's gay herself and identifies as gender fluid.

"Arrowverse chief Greg Berlanti defended Rose's casting stating, "[Ruby] is terrific in the role, and we're excited for people to see the story".
