  • Meet this year's holiday cups

Starting Saturday, customers who bring their reusable holiday cup to participating stores in the USA or Canada after 2 p.m. will get 50 cents off a handcrafted grande holiday beverage.

"We listened to our customers", said Roz Brewer, Starbucks' chief operating officer. "The holidays mean something different to everyone", the company said in an ad showing two women gazing at each other over a cup of coffee. Upon introducing the minimalist cup, Starbucks Vice President Jeffrey Fields said it was a way to "usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories". For example, the "Stargyle" cup incorporates the stars seen in the Starbucks Siren's crown, while the "Stripes" cup features a design mimicking the seam on a back of Starbucks coffee. But in recent years, watching some of Starbucks's seasonal design choices trigger controversy has become a holiday tradition in itself. He exclaimed in the video, "Do you realize that Starbucks wanted to take Christ and Christmas off of their brand-new cups?"

Brewer said employees asked customers for feedback in person and the company gathered data through its app.

Halloween is barely over, and now it's time to start thinking about Christmas, at least according to Starbucks.

Holiday drinks include the Peppermint Mocha which is back for a 16th year along with the Toasted White Chocolate Mocha, Caramel Brulée Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte, Gingerbread Latte and the Eggnog Latte.

Then, starting Saturday through January 7, customers who bring that cup back to Starbucks for a refill can get 50 cents off a grande holiday beverage.

Twitter this morning was filled with Starbucks diehards admitting they were waiting in insane drive-through lines to grab eggnog lattes and a free cup.
