And in October, Southern California Edison said its equipment was at least in part to blame for the Thomas Fire that burned more than 280,000 acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties past year.

Five days after flames all but obliterated the Northern California town of Paradise, population 27,000, officials were unsure of the exact number of missing.

Still, the Fresno, California, resident wasn't planning on heading to the fire area.

He has requested portable morgue teams from the United States military, as well as a disaster mortuary crew, additional cadaver dogs and forensic anthropology units.

"I drove through flames for about two minutes".

The lawsuit alleged that PG&E failed to properly maintain, fix and replace its equipment and that "its inexcusable behavior contributed to the cause of the 'Camp Fire'".

While the Hill Fire is 90 percent contained as of Tuesday morning, the Woolsey Fire is only 35 percent contained, and the Camp Fire 30 percent contained.

Authorities say the downed power lines, busted gas lines and melted roads could endanger them. More than 15,500 structures are at risk of being swallowed by the Camp Fire in the north, and 57,000 homes and other buildings are in jeopardy due to the Woolsey Fire in the south.

The news was likewise more upbeat on the southern end of California's wildfire front, where a blaze called the Woolsey Fire has killed two people, destroyed over 400 structures and displaced some 200,000 people in the mountains and foothills near the Malibu coast west of Los Angeles.

Of the 50 people killed in this month's wildfires, 48 died in Northern California's Camp Fire. Residents are also living closer to forests - as California's population has almost doubled to 40 million since the 1970s - placing more people and structures within at-risk burn areas.

Late on Wednesday, the Butte County Sheriff's Office released a list of 103 people reported missing by relatives, the majority of them over the age of 65.

Dise said she could not drive her auto because the tires had melted.

The bodies of some victims were found in and around the burned-out wreckage of vehicles engulfed in the firestorm as evacuation traffic halted in deadly knots of gridlock hours after the fire erupted.

"We want to be able to cover as much ground as quickly as we possibly can", he said.

Gibson said, "It happened so fast".

"You can see a peek of sun here and there - it's not going to completely block out the sun or anything", National Weather Service meteorologist Sara Pampreen said. It noted that investigators have not yet determined the cause of the blaze.

A lack of rainfall beginning in 2012 led California Governor Jerry Brown to declare a state of emergency in 2014, The Sacramento Bee reported.

"We didn't have 10 minutes to get out of there", he said.

President Donald Trump has requested a major disaster declaration for California, after taking flack for blaming the devastation on poor forestry management over the weekend.
