  • Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz

"The Iceman" never landed any of his vaunted power shots against Ortiz but instead threw passive punches here and there.

The 43-year-old Ortiz, who fought as recently as 2017 for Bellator MMA, appeared as if he could finish the fight at anytime by taking Liddell down. Judging by what unfolded on Saturday night, it's tough to imagine Liddell lacing on the gloves again. But once the fight started he looked slow and a shell of his former self. Ortiz slammed a right hand onto his face, knocking him cold.

Former UFC champion Chuck Liddell returned to fighting following an eight-year layoff, only to be beaten by fellow UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz via a brutal first-round knockout.

After a couple of minutes of feeling out Liddell, Ortiz went in for the kill. Once he unleashed the best combination he could muster, Liddell fell back into the cage and left himself vulnerable.

Referee Herb Dean rushed into stop the contest with the end coming at 4:24 into the opening round.

Chuck Liddell was knocked out by Tito Ortiz in the first round of their third fight. "I wanted to box with Chuck". I wanted this test!

".@JonnyBones I told you I would take care of your light work!"

While Ortiz was obviously elated about the victory that helped him exorcize the demons of Liddell that haunted him for most of his career, he did pay homage to his greatest rival after the fight was finished. "Chuck Liddell, thank you for taking this fight", Ortiz said. Chuck hasn't fought since retiring in 2010 after suffering 3 losses back to back by KO. Thank you, you pushed me hard, man. I love all of you! "You're a f-king true champion, brother".

"I got in shape, I was ready for this fight".

“I wouldnt have made this comeback if I didnt feel like I was in great shape.

"I've got to be respectful". I made a mistake and it is what it is.
