Dr Lisa Doyle, director of Advocacy at the Refugee Council, said the organisation was "shocked and appalled".

Asked he was reassured by the meeting, he said: "The reassurance is that we've had a frank discussion with them and the police are now involved".

But the 16-year-old boy accused of the attack has denied racism and bullying.

Local media say she is Jamal's sister.

People at a peaceful protest outside Almondbury Community School, in Huddersfield after footage was shared on social media of a 15-year-old Syrian refugee being attacked at the school.

"The victim Jamal is a refugee in the United Kingdom who has been subject to months of bullying along with his little sister", the campaign read, adding that "his little sister has broken the lenses in her glasses and attempted to cut her own wrists in school toilets" over racist harassment. "She has also attempted suicide and tried to cut her wrists with a shard of glass, the level of bullying got so much".

'Due to the ongoing police involvement we can not go into further details, but any reports that safety may be compromised are taken extremely seriously.

"I don't feel safe at school. I just don't want anything bad to happen to anyone".

The teenager also said he tried to report the never-ending bullying and racism to local authorities, but he failed to make his voice heard by them.

One woman who donated, named Rose, said: 'I struggle for words when I think about everything your family has been through escaping Syria and starting a new life in a country that treats you like this.

It was filmed about a month ago at his school in Huddersfield, a small city northeast of Manchester.

More than £100,000 has been raised for a teenage Syrian refugee after a video of him being bullied at school was posted online. He is in contact with them and has made them aware of this Go Fund Me page.

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman said the video was "absolutely shocking".

In the fallout, a GoFundMe page was set up to help Jamal and his family and it has so far raised more than £90,000 ($157,000).

The video has been shared thousands of times online, leading to criticism of the school, Almondbury Community School and threats of reprisals against the bully shown in the video. In a letter to parents, the school's head teacher, Trevor Bowen, said officials were co-operating with police and added, "This situation is being taken extremely seriously".
