  • George HW Bush passed away on Friday

During the afternoon before his wife's funeral service, the wheelchair-bound Bush sat for 20 minutes beside her flower-laden coffin.

In January 2017, his office announced that he and his wife would not attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration due to the former president's age and health.

He was also the director of Central Intelligence Agency under the extremely popular Ronald Reagan and was the chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Bush had one of the most impressive résumés in American public life.

The elder Bush served as the USA president from 1989 to 1993.

In the wake of former President George H.W. Bush's death, many people reached out to express their condolences.

His eldest son, George W Bush, went on to become the 43rd United States president.

After graduating from Yale University and venturing into the oil business, Bush jumped into politics and eventually became a congressman, representing the 7th Congressional District in Texas.

Bush famously vowed: "This will not stand, this aggression against Kuwait".

As one of his first major decisions, Bush chose to remove Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega - a former United States ally turned worldwide drug lord - from power.

Four years later, however, Bush lost the presidency to Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton, although the two later became friends, occasionally dispatched by subsequent US presidents to oversee assistance efforts after natural disasters. Bush Sr. was the first vice president to be elected to the presidency since 1836, and also the second person in U.S. history whose son was able to become president after his father.

Another son, Jeb - a former Florida governor - made an unsuccessful bid for the Republican nomination in 2016.
