Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury fight to draw in heavyweight title bout

  • WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder

He says today's fight will be between Tyson Fury who is the boxer and Deontay Wilder who is the banger.

Fury meanwhile insisted he had done enough to win.

Clearly seeing the fight as just another hurdle to negotiate in his bid to face Anthony Joshua to become undisputed champion, Wilder added: "It's definitely the most important [fight of his career], but not the most hard".

Wilder (40-0-1) floored Fury (27-0-1) in the ninth and 12th rounds, yet Fury clearly outboxed Wilder for large portions of the remainder of their entertaining showdown. The sixth round warning from the referee in the sixth round for both to show more urgency. Fury retained the lineal championship.

Fury had his best offensive round in the seventh, landing multiple left jab, right hand combinations that caused substantial swelling on Wilder's face.

In the ninth, Wilder found success when he walked the challenger down, landing with a right that put Fury on the backseat of his trousers. Listen, I'm not going to take anything from Wilder, he's a great champion and a great man.

Wilder almost stopped Fury in the 12th round with a hard knockdown, but Fury survived and stormed back for a memorable round of the year candidate in a fight that is likely to see a sequel.

There is, however, doubt as to whether Wilder would take a rematch. After a few seconds he then approached the champion and shared an embrace with Wilder, which melted the hearts of the watching millions.

Wilder got the 10-8 score he needed to catch Fury on Edwards' scorecards, which ultimately meant the fight was announced as a split decision draw.

Wilder, having successfully defended his title, said he hoped for a rematch, either in the United Kingdom or USA, and also extended the same gratitude to Fury for a fight that will surely live long in the memory.
