Saturday's action-packed WBC heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder in Los Angeles saw the Bronze Bomber floor his rival twice during the fight - but Fury managed to rise form the canvas both times.
Wilder almost knocked Fury out in the 12th round with a hard knockdown, but Fury survived and stormed back for a memorable round of the year candidate in a fight that likely will see a sequel.
With the vast majority of the fans inside Staples Center and across social media believing Fury had done more than enough to win, the fight ended without a victor.
Judge Alejandro Rochin turned in an eyebrow-raising scorecard of 115-111 for Wilder, Robert Tapper had it 114-112 for Fury, and Phil Edwards scored it 113-113 - even. FightNights.com concurred with Tapper, giving Fury a 114-112 score.
TysonFury dominated long stretches of his heavyweight title bout against DeontayWilder with shifty technique and graceful defense.
Neither man was overly upset by the verdict after a compelling bout in front of a frenzied Hollywood crowd.
"With the two knockdowns I definitely won the fight", said the American. I'm not gonna sit here and complain all night, scream robbery. I went to Germany to fight [Wladimir] Klitschko and I've come to America to fight Wilder. Although he didn't land it with full force, he dropped Fury, who did not seem badly hurt.
Fury's jab did a lot of damage and kept Wilder at bay. From our side we want that undisputed fight ASAP, and that's DeontayWilder in April 13 at Wembley. The two fighters reached the final bell, and the judges scored the fight a draw. I think when he's exhausted he's more risky because he just flings those punches around and if one of them hit you round the head, you're going to go down and it happened. In an unbelievable turn of events, however, Fury summoned his inner Michael Myers and somehow rose to his feet at the count of nine.
Los Angeles Lakers basketball star LeBron James wrote: "Man that was the funniest/craziest fight I've ever seen in my life".
The fight went the way that the Englishman wanted and Wilder was more defensive than he has ever been, only really daring to come out of his shell in the final 10 seconds of each round. "I got put down by some good shots but showed good heart to get back up". It looked like the fight was over Fury barely beat referee Jack Reiss' count and even when Wilder rocked him in a follow-up attack Fury was still together enough to hold on. Wilder has emerged as a great heavyweight champion, and he continues to prove that.
"Many men probably wouldn't have gotten up from the knockdown but I did and that's what it is". It doesn't matter to me where we do it.
