  • Kevin Hart on Thursday

He had backed away two days after being named host last month when some homophobic tweets he had made a decade ago resurfaced.

Prodded by Ellen DeGeneres, comic Kevin Hart says he'll reconsider his decision to step down as host of the Oscars.

"So when people say, 'Yo, I can't find it, ' well, go ask the individual who dug up the stuff from 2009 to go do the same", Hart continued. "No, it's done. It's done", Hart said.

On Twitter, Hart apologised to the LGBTQ community for what he called "my insensitive words from my past". I know that I've taken the ten years to put my apology to work. "This was to damage the lives that have been invested in me". Saying Ellen, of all people, should know how hard it can be to come out, McCain criticized Hart for his "jokes" about beating up his son if he came out as gay. "Because that was wrong".

"I called the Academy today because I really want you to host the Oscars", she told Hart.

Ellen DeGeneres wants Kevin Hart to host the Oscars. But I also believe that forgiveness requires an actual apology. "And I believe in Kevin Hart". "And I believe in Kevin Hart", the TV host wrote in a tweet.

In the interview, which aired overnight, the talk show host revealed that she had spoken to Hart about his controversy soon after it all blew up, and she told him that she had contacted Oscars top brass to try and get him reinstated as host.

BuzzFeed film reporter Adam Vary searched Hart's entire Twitter feed for gay slang and re-posted several of the comedian's past comments online December 5.

The host told Hart not to listen to the "haters out there". I'm sorry! But either my apology is accepted or it isn't. It was, "Kevin Hart steps down because he refuses to apologize for homophobic tweets.' This was what was said and it was blasted all over the internet, and the word 'again" somehow got lost, which was a major word. I've yet to go back to that version of the immature comedian I once was. "I want to be done with this conversation". "You've done it. Don't let those people win - host the Oscars", she concluded in her show.

The former Saturday Night Live star added "FREE LOUIE [sic] CK!" and declared that if Hart doesn't host the Oscars he will boycott. I've moved on. I'm a grown man. I was called fag by people I loved before I even understood what being gay meant. My favorite ceremonies in recent memory were the ones hosted by Hugh Jackman and Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin because they celebrated the art of moviemaking in grand fashion. The comedian gave up the gig after the academy asked him to apologize, but later had a change of heart and apologized to anyone who was offended by his statements.
