Deputy US Attorney General Rosenstein expected to resign in weeks

Rosenstein, who spent his career at the Department of Justice before Trump nominated him as DOJ's No. 2 official, had come under fire from the president after he named Robert Muellerin May 2017 as special counsel to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election. Rosenstein was seen by many as helping to protect Mueller from being fired and from other White House interference. He said Barr would be an "excellent attorney general when he is confirmed".
Barr's nomination is likely to meet heavy scrutiny regarding the ongoing investigation, particularly from Democrats, following reports he had written a memo in June questioning the probe. Text overlaid on the image reads: "Now that Russian collusion is a proven lie, when do the trials for treason begin?"
Rosenstein reportedly planned to stay for two years anyway, and there is no indication that Trump is forcing him out of the administration, ABC reported.
But he also has been a target of President Donald Trump, who previous year tweeted out a picture of Rosenstein behind bars. "My guess is that he is making room for the new attorney general to build a team that he wants around him", Sanders said.
On Wednesday, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said Barr would permit Mueller to complete the investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 presidential election.
"I can assure you he has a very high opinion of Mr. Mueller, and he is committed to letting Mr. Mueller finish his job", Graham told reporters after the meeting.
Graham listed a number of questions that he had put to Barr: "I asked Mr. Barr directly, 'Do you think Mr. Mueller is on a witch hunt?' He said no". Barr and Mueller worked together when Barr was Bush's attorney general from 1991 to 1993 and Mueller oversaw the department's criminal division.
Matt Whitaker, the acting attorney general, is now tasked with overseeing the investigation but Mr Rosenstein's office still manages its day-to-day business.
The Senate's confirmation hearings for Barr are scheduled to begin on January 15.
But after Mr Session was ousted in November, his replacement Matthew Whitaker took over the investigation, refusing to recuse himself despite his previous public criticism of the probe.
