Trump also objected to a report in The Washington Post that said he went to extraordinary lengths to hide details of his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin even from high-ranking officials in his own administration.

When asked about the FBI's counterintelligence investigation of Trump as a potential threat to national security, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told CBS News in a taped interview that "the notion that President Trump is a threat to American national security is absolutely ludicrous".

There remains no detailed record, even in classified files, of face-to-face meetings between Trump and Putin from five locations over the past two years, the report said.

Although Trump has been unusually pro-Russia in his rhetoric, his policies toward Russian Federation have not differed significantly from other administrations, a fact that President Barack Obama's former ambassador to Russian Federation remarked upon during an interview with Salon in June. That, according to the Post, was when USA officials became aware of Trump's efforts.

A White House spokesman contacted by the Washington Post who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the administration has sought to "improve the relationship with Russian Federation".

But the White House, and Trump himself, disagree.

According to the Post, Trump's alleged behavior is "is at odds with the known practices of previous presidents", who, when meeting with individuals like Putin, for example, "relied on senior aides to witness meetings and take comprehensive notes then shared with other officials and departments".

Wow, just learned in the Failing New York Times that the corrupt former leaders of the FBI, nearly all fired or forced to leave the agency for some very bad reasons, opened up an investigation on me, for no reason & with no proof, after I fired Lyin' James Comey, a total sleaze!

(CNN)Every week, I offer a glimpse of the kind of intelligence assessments that are likely to come across the desk of the President of the United States, modeled on the President's Daily Briefing, or PDB, which the director of national intelligence prepares for the President nearly daily. "I do it with all countries".

The president directly responded to the accusations during an interview with Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, pledging transparency about his encounters with Putin, specifically their meeting in Helsinki last summer. I'm not keeping anything under wraps. "I couldn't care less".

Coons said, "That was a concerning, even alarming report".

Trump went on to assert that no president has taken a harder stance against Russian Federation than he has.

The report about Trump's meetings with Putin follows a Friday report from The New York Times that the F.B.I. opened an investigation into whether or not Trump was acting on Russia's behalf after Trump fired former F.B.I. director James Comey in 2017. Bob Menendez, the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told CNN that he was planing to sit down with his counterpart in the House to discuss priorities. "That meeting is open for grabs". "I don't get it". There was a translator so I'm sure she took notes down simultaneously in order to translate. There have already been concerns by special counsel Robert Mueller that Trump's firing of Comey constituted an act of obstruction of justice.
