  • Roger Stone Threatened to Steal Mueller Witness's Therapy Dog Indictment

Stone was an early Trump backer whose reputation as an aggressive political operative and self-proclaimed "dirty trickster" dates back to the Watergate scandal of the 1970s when he was working for Richard Nixon.

Hours later, he appeared in court in a blue polo shirt and jeans.

One colorful section of the 24-page indictment details Stone's alleged witness tampering of "Person 2", in which Stone warns that prosecutors will take away the intermediary's beloved dog and tells him, when testifying before the House Intelligence Committee, to pull a "Frank Pentangeli", a character in "The Godfather: Part II" who pretends he doesn't know critical information that he does, in fact, know. "That is incorrect. Any error I made in my testimony would be both immaterial and without intent".

The indictment brought by special counsel Robert Mueller does not accuse Stone of coordinating with the Russian government's election interference in 2016, the key matter under investigation in the probe.

After the October 7 releases, Stone boasted to "senior Trump Campaign officials" that he had correctly predicted the data dump, prosecutors say. His case will be transferred to Washington, D.C.

Roger Stone, the colorful former longtime political adviser to President Trump, has been indicted on charges of obstruction, making false statements and witness tampering as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's wide-ranging Russian Federation collusion probe. "STONE thereafter told the Trump Campaign about potential future releases of damaging material by Organization 1", the indictment said.

According to the indictment, between June and July of 2016, Stone told "senior Trump campaign officials" about the stolen emails in WikiLeaks' possession that could be damaging to Hillary Clinton. He says his committee will be eager to learn who directed the official.

Mr Stone says he believes his arrest in the special counsel's Russian Federation probe was "politically motivated" and he's vowing to plead not guilty and fight the charges.

Trump himself on Friday called the investigation the "Greatest Witch Hunt in the History of our Country!"

Over the years, Stone served as a northeast regional political director for Ronald Reagan's 1980 presidential campaign, and also a political consultant or campaign manager to other Republicans, including Bob Dole, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Jack Kemp, Prescott Bush, and the former New Jersey Governor Thomas Kean. Stone testified before the House Intelligence Committee on September 26, 2017. The indictment accuses Stone of carrying out a "prolonged effort" to keep NY radio host Randy Credico, referred to as Person 2, from contradicting his testimony before the House intelligence committee.

After the instruction from the Trump campaign, Stone allegedly emailed "Person 1" - a "political commentator who worked with a digital media publication" - to get in touch with the head of Organization 1.

Stone has a knack for commanding attention: He sports impeccably tailored suits and close-cropped bleach blond hair and is willing to say just about anything.

"Randy is a witness", Stolar said, and will testify if needed in proceedings involving Stone.

Trump had said he fired Stone from his presidential campaign.

The indictment says that Stone later lied about these interactions to congressional investigators, which is a federal crime. It also doesn't say that Stone had any special knowledge of WikiLeaks' plans.

Former federal prosecutor and MSNBC legal analyst Cynthia Alksne had it up to here with President Donald Trump's dissembling lawyer Rudy Giuliani, saying Friday his defense of indicted Trump associate Roger Stone amounted to "an assault on our democratic process".

Mr Stone published a book, The Making of the President 2016, after helping Mr Trump to power.
