"Any content - including remarks - that jeopardizes minors is despicable and we have clear policies forbidding this on YouTube", the representative said at the time. We asked YouTube if it has identified any problems in its algorithms that helped cause the problem but received no answer to that question.

"Paedophiles are trading social media contacts; they're trading links to actual child porn in YouTube comments; they're trading unlisted videos in secret, and YouTube's algorithm through some glitch in its programming is facilitating their ability to do this", he said in the video. From a fresh YouTube account, Watson was able to gain access to the rabbit hole of videos in about five minutes. "There's more to be done, and we continue to work on improve and catch abuse more quickly".

Nestle and other major companies have pulled their ads from YouTube after a video blogger raised concerns that pedophiles were using the platform to trade information and draw attention to clips of young girls.

The subtleties originate from YouTube's maker outreach team in response to a video from commentator Philip DeFranco published yesterday evening.

The outreach came after companies such as AT&T Inc., Kellogg Co., Nestle SA and Walt Disney Co., as well as several smaller brands, paused their YouTube advertising over the controversy.

The report comes from Matt Watson who posted a lengthy video on their YouTube channel as well as a post on reddit in which he discusses a "softcore pedophile ring" he discovered on YouTube.

It's because of this that Epic Games has chose to pull their future Fortnite ads from the platform until further notice.

However, many major brands, like Disney, AT&T, Nestle, and Fortnite are jumping ship and halting all YouTube advertising in its wake. McDonald's also has pulled YouTube ad spending, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The accounts of the commenters who were linking to the inappropriate material were still up. Watson shows that users sometimes engage in a practice he calls "timestamping", where viewers comment with a specific video timestamp that "points in the video where the little girls are in compromising positions".

Other YouTubers and community members were fast to respond to the move, calling it "unfair" and "aggravating".

This is not the first time YouTube has found itself in hot water from companies whose advertisements ran before inappropriate content. In the past few days, according to the Verge, YouTube has already deleted some 400 channels in connection with child exploitation.
