Rolling Stone reported that even the Northern Ireland police eventually indicated the actual threat posed by the Momo challenge could be overblown and an effort at exploitation.

Police have issued a warning over an alleged "suicide game" where children are contacted on social media and urged to harm themselves. The Momo character-using the image of a Japanese sculpture called "Mother Bird"-reportedly begins the game with relatively benign challenges that quickly escalate".

Social media apps have a history of safety issues, especially regarding children.

Content or accounts that encourage others to harm themselves are not allowed and we will remove them as soon as we are made aware.

The 2016 "Momo Challenge" is resurfacing, after appearing in the middle of children's videos - and even leading to the stabbing of an eight-year-old child.

The call comes in the wake of the "Momo Challenge" a new cyberbullying game that targets young and vulnerable people online.

The mum, from Edinburgh, said: "He showed me an image of the face on my phone and said that she had told him to go into the kitchen drawer and take out a knife and put it into his neck".

"We are aware that some nasty challenges (Momo challenge) are hacking into children's programmes".

The Daily Mail reported the game is linked to two children's deaths, and, in recent months, officials around the country have warned parents about the game and changes in their kids' behavior.

WHAT ALL PARENTS NEED TO KNOW: The disturbing viral "challenge" pops up on YouTube videos encouraging them to harm... In the video, a child's voice sings, "Momo's going to kill you, at night she'll come when you're in bed, in the morning you will be dead", over an unchanging photo of the doll.

It's believed the challenge started spreading on the messaging service WhatsApp and may also be spread on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

"Another threatens family if a "challenge" is not completed".

Although the scary internet videos are clearly causing fear in parents like Kim, YouTube has never seen any evidence of the actual challenge, according to TMZ, but the video company ensured the outlet that if they do find it, all videos would be removed immediately since they obviously would be a violation of their policies.

Schools across the United Kingdom are also alerting parents to the potential dangers of the viral videos.

Their caution includes a factsheet telling parents what the challenge entails, how children are becoming absorbed by the game and what they should do if they are asked to play the game.

Can I personally confirm that this challenge is 100% actually real?

Parents must act if they hear the above video playing through their children's electronic devices.
