  • Leading man Kane celebrates his goal which eased Spurs’ path into the quarter-finals

Tottenham reached the last eight for the first time since 2011 thanks to Harry Kane's goal that secured a 4-0 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund.

The Champions League last 16 round is now half completed and two former Newcastle players find themselves in the quarter-finals already.

"We played well in the first half but the only thing we were missing was a goal that could have given that spark we needed", said Dortmund sports director Michael Zorc.

Kane fared better from Moussa Sissoko's through ball in the 49th minute, sweeping his finish around Roman Bürki and becoming Spurs' all-time leading goalscorer in Europe with 24 in the process.

A lot of work has also been done by Proud and Palace, a LGBT group at the South London club, who will be very visible at the game this weekend.

Mauricio Pochettino's men held a commanding lead ahead of their trip to Signal Iduna Park and, although the hosts piled on the pressure in the first half, Hugo Lloris proved a reliable last line of defence before Harry Kane ultimately put the tie to bed. If the Englishman got the victor tonight, however, it was Lloris's string of first-half saves to prevent Dortmund breaking the deadlock that won the tie.

Kane's strike destroyed Dortmund's hopes of a comeback.

Tottenham Hotspur could yet play their Champions League quarter-final at their new stadium despite the fact it's still not finished.

"It's fantastic. Both clubs in the quarter-final is massive for English football and I hope Manchester City and Liverpool can be in the quarter-finals next week", Pochettino said in a press conference.

"After the first leg result, you could see the risks Dortmund took".

"This is a huge step, but we have to keep growing and we need more nights like this", said Kane. "Now we have to deliver in the next few weeks, it starts on Saturday".

"It is so important to be in the quarter-final, but you need to show more if you want to be at the next level".

"If you look over the two legs, we deserved to win - we scored four goals and didn't concede any goals".

"Now we can enjoy, because it is a big achievement - we don't want to stop".
