  • 'It's show time': Apple confirms launch event on March 25

The video service, which is created to rival offerings from Netflix Inc. and Amazon.com Inc., will couple Apple-developed or funded TV shows and movies with the ability to subscribe to content from providers like Starz, Bloomberg News reported last month.

Apple has long hinted at a planned video service, spending $2 billion in Hollywood to produce its own content and signing major stars such as Oprah Winfrey.

Apple has confirmed that it will hold an event on 25 March, where it's expected to announce its new TV streaming offering.

Apple acquired the digital magazine app Texture past year, which enables you to read a huge number of publications for a single monthly fee, a bit like a music streaming service.

Rumour has it that the service will combine original content and existing third-party subscription services.

It's been three years since the Apple video service rumour mill started churning, but it looks like the Netflix rival could now be just around the corner. Apple is focusing more on its Services business with this event so it is unlikely that we will see the company make any hardware announcements on stage. Presumably, the shows Apple has already released on Apple Music, such as Carpool Karaoke and Planet of the Apps, will be on the streaming service, but that isn't clear.

Apple is aiming to resell TV channels subscriptions similar to Amazon, whose Prime Video Service resells Starz and other channels and keeps a cut of the sales. It also follows a New York Times report which claimed that Apple will release its string of TV titles in the spring of 2019.
