The South Raccoon River is forecast to rise to 20.8 feet, or 0.8 feet above flood stage, Thursday morning and then begin falling to below flood stage by midday. Blue Rapids residents are not too concerned with flooding reaching their homes at this point, as they have a levee that keeps the river out of town, even above flood stage. The deluge pushed some waterways, including the Missouri River, to record levels in Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. There remains some uncertainty in the current track of this weather system which may affect the timing and amount of rainfall and snow melt associated with this event.

The flooding followed days of snow and rain - record-setting, in some places - that swept through the West and Midwest.

The Union County Emergency Management says residents along the Missouri River should try to secure their property and prepare to evacuate. The flooding was the worst in almost a decade in places. The story is much the same throughout the central USA, where flooding swamped small towns, forced residents to evacuate, and threatened to temporarily close a nuclear power plant in Nebraska. His cousin, Paul Wilke, told the Columbus Telegram James Wilke's body was found downstream.

In Wisconsin, Darlington officials said the city broke its flooding record, since the Pecatonica River crested at 18.2 feet in 1993, according to CNN affiliate KCRG. A funeral home confirmed the death. In eastern Nebraska, at least one person is dead and two others are missing.

The National Weather Service in Omaha Nebraska is now evacuating and shutting down their radar due to a levee failure at the Union Dike, flood waters are now rushing into the warned area.

Officials in other parts of Nebraska said a Norfolk man was seen on top of his flooded vehicle late on Thursday before being swept away and another man was missing after being swept away when a dam collapsed on the Niobrara river.

A flood warning for northern and parts of central Iowa has been extended through Saturday evening as "local creeks and streams, as well as the main river branches are running high", according to the weather service.
